This is a new stream under the existing Drought Communities Programme – Extension. This program is to be delivered by AusIndustry on behalf of the Department of Infrastructure, Regional Development and Cities.

The Drought Community Support Initiative was announced at the National Drought Summit on 26 October 2018.

The objectives of the Drought Community Support Initiative are to provide immediate assistance to farmers, farm workers and farm suppliers/contractors who are facing hardship arising from the impact of drought in eligible Local Government Areas.

This grant opportunity is delivered through a closed non-competitive process. The Minister for Regional Services has invited four charity organisations to apply for a grant.

The selected charity organisations will provide immediate financial support to eligible recipients 18 years of age or older, who are farmers, farm workers and farm suppliers/contractors facing hardship as a result of drought and are living or working in one of the eligible Local Government Areas.

Immediate financial support may constitute up to $3,000 per eligible household using a combination of up to $2,000 in cash and up to $1,000 in vouchers.
