The Government has committed $100 million (GST exclusive) to the delivery of the Mobile Black Spot Programme. The Programme aims to improve coverage along major transport routes, in small communities and in locations prone to experiencing natural disasters, as well as addressing unique mobile coverage problems.
The application period is now closed. The Government is currently assessing those proposals and aims to be in a position to announce the list of base stations by 30 June 2015. The Government expects the first base stations under the Programme to begin rolling out in the second half of 2015. The funded base stations will be constructed over a three-year period.
